WelcomeI am a general surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive generaland bariatric surgery. The procedure I perform most commonly islaparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy. In the last few years I haveperformed very few LAP-BAND procedures due to poor weight loss and high longterm failure rates being reported by surgeons around the world. I also do revisional surgery;mostly removal of failed LAP-BANDS with conversion to sleeve gastrectomy. I have now performed more than 1300 weight lossoperations. There are numerous web-sites with detailed information about bariatric surgery. It won't take long for you to find them. Obesityhelp.com is a popular site and they have plenty of links to help you get going. Another is realself.com. If you areinterested in seeing me about having this type of surgery, download this Patient Information Packet and complete thequestionnaire. Do the homework and bring the completed questionnaire to your appointment.Self-Pay Bariatric ProgramWe often receive inquiries from patients who want to have weightloss surgery, but don't have insurance coverage. We offerpackage pricing for laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy,Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and adjustable gastric band (LAP-BAND). This price includes the hospital, anesthesia, surgery, aswell as 2 years of follow-up, including band adjustments (fills). For patients unable to bring a support person with them, we canalso provide an even more comprehensive package which willinclude everything from airport pickup, transportation to and fromthe doctor's office and hospital, and post-op meals. Please emailus or call the office for further details, or click here.Revisions for Weight RegainI used to do various endoscopic procedures for patients who have regained weight after gastric bypass surgery. This includedpouch and stoma reductions using the StomaphyX device, the USGI instrument used for the “ROSE” procedure, andsclerotherapy. These innovative procedures offer an endoscopic option to gastric bypass patients who have not reached theirweight loss goals or have begun to regain weight after previously successful gastric bypass surgery. Unfortunately, theseprocedures have generally not fulfilled their promise. The effects have been temporary, at best. I am therefore very reluctant tooffer these procedures any more. I will still do an occasional stoma sclerotherapy, but no longer use the StomaphyX device. With a large number of people undergoing LapBand placement, there is also a significant number of patients (up to 40%) whohave not been successful in losing weight with the Band. For these unfortunate patients I can laparoscopically remove theLapBand, with conversion to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy.
